Easy Acne Swaps For Fall

As fall, AKA "bad skin season," continues, it's time to make these straightforward acne-safe swaps.

Non-acne-safe makeup for acne-safe makeup

For those who are acne-prone, acne-safe makeup is totally non-negotiable! Makeup is a big acne trigger. Giving up makeup is hard, but switching to our endless options of acne-safe makeup is easy and paves the way for a trip to the mall!

Dryer sheets for dryer balls and scented soap for unscented

We're coming for your dryer sheets. If you have any skin conditions, including breakouts, dermatitis, eczema, and rosacea, then fatty waxes and scents in your laundry should be the first to go. Dryer sheets leave behind a fatty wax on linens and clothes that can irritate and clog the pores. And fragrance can be a sensitive skin trigger. Think about all the time you spend on your pillowcase!

Regular multivitamin for Face Reality multivitamins

Multivitamins are an often-overlooked acne trigger. Too much of a good thing can be a bad thing for acne-prone skin. Not only are B12, biotin, and iodine all acne triggers in high amounts, but the body is all about balance, so for every action (including the wrong supplements for you) comes a reaction that can result in inflammation in the body and lead to acne.

The Face Reality supplements, Clear Skin Restore and Clear Skin Balance, are acne-safe, so they won't cause breakouts and have manageable doses of common vitamins that people, especially those prone to acne, often lack! These are two separate supplements for better absorption. They include vitamins A, B, C, D, E, zinc, fish oil, and a specific acne-fighting probiotic.

Peanut butter for almond butter and peanuts for other nuts

Peanuts are high in androgens, which raise oil production. Acne-prone people should avoid eating too many peanuts and peanut products. Luckily, it's very easy to swap peanuts out for other nuts or nut butters! We know sacrificing your Reese's Peanut Butter Cups this Halloween might be sad, but the acne gods will reward you.

Sephora skincare for professional skincare

In the nicest way possible, we have to tell you that Sephora skincare is mostly junk food skincare designed to look good, smell good, and feel good. Just think, aestheticians can use any lines they want, including those available at Sephora or drug stores, so wouldn't they use the products that work? Also, if you are using budget as an excuse, a professional routine can be less, and you know it all works, so you won't have to make more purchases in the long run.

Lattes for making your coffee

While dairy has long been the boogeyman of acne, sugar is a much sneakier acne trigger. Of course, if you are sensitive to dairy, you should avoid it, as dairy in high doses can trigger acne. However, getting a sugary latte with a milk alternative is more likely to cause acne than coffee or espresso with a splash of organic full-fat cream. Add a touch of maple or a cold foam if really needed, but every pump of syrup is testing fate when it comes to breakouts. Yes, ignorance is bliss when it comes to our Starbucks order, but making small changes like weaning yourself from milky, sweet coffee can really impact your skin.

Makeup remover for micellar water

Makeup wipes or makeup removers use detergents that act like soap and leave irritating and sometimes pore-clogging residue on skin. Micellar water is a gentle magnet that pulls dirt, oil, and makeup off the skin, helping you cleanse your skin more easily. It's so important to get all traces of makeup off your skin. In an ideal world, you would always thoroughly cleanse with a cleanser to remove all makeup. However, when pressed for time, pre-cleansing with cotton pads soaked in micellar water saves you time and cleansing product without compromising clear skin.

Toning for not toning

There is no excuse not to tone. Toning is quick, affordable, and isn't just a bonus but a necessary step for clear skin. Toning removes traces of dirt, oil, hard water, and makeup that can clog pores, paving the way for your other products to work. It's a missed opportunity for clear skin if you aren't toning!
