Get to know SKIN MPLS: Meet Becky!
This new addition is especially exciting because we are growing and expanding into new territory! Becky will not only specialize in acne and general skin health along with the team; as a nurse practitioner, she will also be our Medical Director – making us a med spa (more to come on that!)!
At Skin MPLS, most people already think of us as more clinical in how we treat skin, but now we will be able to work under the supervision of Becky! Cassie and Becky go way back, and it's no surprise Becky has also been a client of Cassie's for over ten years.
We look forward to seeing this next phase of Skin MPLS come to life, so please get to know Becky! She may not be a completely new face to you, she’s already been working with our team since early this year to integrated with our systems, processes, and ways — and has been plugging away behind the scenes as Medical Director to create our new med spa offerings!
Her booking will start open soon, and the first appointments available will be in early October — we’ll keep you posted!
So, what exactly will you be doing at Skin MPLS?
First, I want to say how excited I am to join this fantastic, fun, and supportive group of women! And I'm looking forward to getting started with you all.
My role at Skin MPLS will include Medical Director as well as provider. Initially, I will provide microneedling, chemical peels, and acne services, including extractions. The team at Skin MPLS has always been very results-driven, and I look forward to helping patients achieve their goals.
Tell us a little about your schooling and past nursing jobs.
I graduated with a B.A. and B.S. from UMD's pre-med program. I took the MCAT and started applying to medical schools while shadowing a physician in the clinic. That experience was extremely valuable – mainly because it helped me realize that was not the path I wanted to take!
I decided I wanted to be a nurse and started taking prerequisite courses (at the UofM in Minneapolis) for nursing school – surprisingly, all those pre-med courses didn't nearly cover what I needed for nursing! Once in nursing school, I found my joy at the end of the life continuum and worked as an RN at North Memorial in their inpatient hospice. We admitted very complex patients who required aggressive symptom management, and many had significant wound care needs.
I loved my time and team at North. When I decided to go back for my Master's degree, I chose to focus on helping those with serious illness and all that entails – from complex symptom management, psychosocial/emotional support, assisting with education to promote informed decision-making, and goals of care discussions. I was in that role, as a consultant with Allina hospitals, for 16 years. I remain a casual (as needed) consultant at United Hospital in my downtime from my skin education and ramp-up.
What is most important to you when it comes to treating your patients?
I want my patients to feel heard. We may not always agree on the best course of action, but I make sure to listen to their concerns and goals while answering any questions they have. And if I don't know the answer, I will find it for them!
It’s also vital that my patients can trust me. I work to earn that trust through honesty, consistency, and compassion.
What is your skincare routine?
I do whatever Cassie tells me to do! LOL. For many years, my morning routine has consisted of Vivant Green Tea Cleanser, Vivant Pure C&E Serum, Le Mieux Eye & Lip Cream, and Bio Cell Rejuvenating Cream topped with Supergoop Superscreen.
My evening routine is typically Vivant Mandelic Acid Wash, Vivant Exfol-A Serum or FF3 Triple Repair Cream, Le Mieux Eye & Lip, and I finish with Bio Cell Rejuvenating Cream.
Most nights of the week, I use Le Mieux O2 Calming Gel with my NuFace device. And, of course, a weekly mask – usually Image Vital C Hydrating Enzyme Mask. I recently added Vivant Normalizing Tonic both morning and evening, and I love it!
And what about your interests outside of Skin MPLS?
I bring a good book with me just about everywhere – you never know when you'll have time on your hands and I'm always happy to be reading. I'm very lucky to be married to a great human who happens to be an excellent cook (and in the wine business – so there's a good chance I'll have a glass of something yummy nearby!).
We love a good pop culture moment here in the studio; that being said, who would your dream client be?
Dan Levy. Or Catherine O'Hara. Maybe Jennifer Coolidge. Wait, can I have all three of them here at the same time?!? Throw in Jason Sudeikis if there's still room in the car.
What is your skincare philosophy?
If you don't take care of your skin, it will have a much harder time taking care of you.
We all have a skincare lesson we had to learn the hard way; what is yours?
I did not wear daily sunscreen until much later than I should have. I grew up spending tons of time outside (back in the days of Sun-In hair lightener, baby-oiled skin, and the dreaded tanning beds). I used to love my freckles until I hit my 40s and started getting more prominent sunspots. Now I'm in my (very early!) 50s and never leave the house without SPF. But I REALLY wish I had started decades ago.
You said you are an avid reader. What book do you think you would love to tell your patients about?
That's such a hard question! There are so many! I'm a sucker for great historical fiction. I get to learn about real-life events while getting to know interesting fictional characters. I often google the places, events, art, and even foods that are of the era and part of the story.
The burning question everyone is asking is, will you be doing injectables?
I can’t reveal the future just yet!
