Popular Beauty Brands And Products That Are Breaking You Out!
While people may swear by these, we swear that there are better AND acne-safe options.
We love looking into the cosmetics that you love, but we hate it when we find concerning pore-clogging ingredients in the formulations. Here, we’ll share a few popular brands and products that keep coming up as products breaking you out – but we’ve found you some pore-safe alternatives, too!
Remember, you can always find our complete acne-safe makeup list here. The last big update was in January 2022, but we’re currently combing through all the department store, Sephora, and Ulta makeup offerings to update our list. We’ll share it soon once it’s complete. Until then, you can always message contact@skinmpls.com with your makeup questions or directly connect with your aesthetician.
Laura Mercier
The loose powder, highlighter, and tinted moisturizer in Laura Mercier’s range all have Ethylhexyl Palmitate as an ingredient. This is a huge “no-no” for the acne-prone, it’s a fatty wax that’s a four out of five on the pore-clogging scale.
Try this instead: Priia Cosmetics features only acne-safe makeup options, so you never have to worry about picking the wrong one.
Ilia Skin Tint
While this is still all over TikTok, it should not be all over your skin! If you are acne-prone, this features not one but two problematic ingredients. Isopropyl Isostearate is a five out of five on the comedogenic scale, and Polyglyceryl 3-Diiositerate is a four out of five; it sure doesn’t sound so “clean" to us.

NARS Orgasm Blush
The only thing more scandalous than its name is that it uses Red 30 as an ingredient. Fun fact: Dr. Fulton (Vivant Skincare’s founder) first discovered that certain pigments could cause acne and actually used to recommend eyeshadow as blush because those dyes were banned around the eyes. Fortunately, there are now lots of great, acne-safe blush options.

Isle of Paradise Tanning Drops
We love that you are sunning responsibly, but these have coconut oil, which is a “heck no” on the acne-causing spectrum.
Try this instead: Eco Tan Face Tan Water – it’s actually Bella’s fave!
Glossier Highlighter
Again, please leave the coconut oil for cooking and never put it on your skin. Even non-acne-prone people can break out by regular use of Glossier Highlighter thanks to this five out of five pore-clogging ingredient!
Try these instead: SAIE Highlighter (liquid) or The Good Mineral (powder)
Summer Fridays Skin Tint
While we love summer Fridays, the “skincare” line sharing the same name is sure to keep you coming in to us again and again for extractions. The first ingredient in their skin tint? Ethyhexical Palmitate. Yikes!
Try this instead: TiZO Tinted Dewy Finish
MAC Lip Products
Ethyhexical Palmitate is a repeat offender in many lipsticks, tints, and glosses in the MAC makeup range. Make sure you peek all your lip stuff out if you are breaking out around your mouth, and use MAC lip products.
