Hydrafacials, Worth the Hype?
Hydrafacials have been around for well over ten years and continue to gain popularity in trending skincare. While we do not provide Hydrafacials in our studio, we often get asked our take on them. So here are our answers to some of the common questions we’ve been asked about Hydrafacials.
What is a Hydrafacial:
Like most professional skincare tools, Hydrafacials claim to do it all. Essentially, they use a medical-grade device to cleanse, exfoliate, purify, treat and hydrate the skin all at once. Think of it as microdermabrasion mixed with hydration and extractions, the treatment modality is actually called “hydrodermabrasion.” While vacuuming out the skin’s impurities and sweeping away dead skin cells from the skin’s surface, it also infuses water and serums into the skin. They can be done as a solo treatment or used within a facial setting. Prices start around $175 for this patented technology.
What Results to Expect:
One of the biggest claims is that there is no downtime. And this is mostly true. Without a deeper exfoliation that microdermabrasion offers or deeper manual exactions, the skin leaves as calm as it came in and most definitely will feel more hydrated. (So this treatment isn’t right for someone with active acne and serious extractions – it’s more for lighter extractions of clogged pores in the T-zone). However, active ingredients are used, so some may experience a bit of a peel a couple of days later. While Hydrafacials are all made to suit most skin types, without unique regimen plans the results will fade in less than a week. From there, you may notice little to no change in the skin until your next treatment.
Skin MPLS Take Away:
We skin nerds here at Skin MPLS (who love alllllll face treatments), feel that Hydrafacial’s results when compared against their price tag, don’t match up. We’re left wanting more for our money! However, if you want zero downtime, and don’t mind spending $$$, and can get frequent treatments, Hydrafacials can be right for you. Unfortunately, if you really need a deep pore cleaning (which we believe nearly everyone does) manual extractions are the only way to remove impacted and inflamed comedones under the skin. We know healing time can be frustrating, but it’s part of the process to healthier skin. We recommend Hydrafacials as a fun treatment for an event or a self-care indulgence. If you are on a budget with your skincare and also have lofty skincare goals, more traditional facial treatments are the path for you.
