How do you connect with clients?

I try to meet clients where they're at — whether it's their mood, goals, or interests. We all have ups and downs, likes and dislikes, and oftentimes, we can relate our approach and feelings to anything from a life conflict to a TV show and book.

It takes a lot of trust for clients with skin insecurities to open up; how do you help new clients feel comfortable?

Above all, it's so important to actively listen, validate concerns, and be empathetic. Being honest creates trust, and sharing my own personal experience with acne and treating my skin can help build a bridge between me and a client.

Describe your philosophy on helping clients create healthy skin.

Your skin is unique, and it's not a one-size-fits-all situation. I stress the importance of consistency and patience in your skincare journey. It takes time to achieve results and understand your skin. I also emphasize the importance of sun protection, hydration, and stress management for overall skin health. Your skin is a balance of 80-20, with regular treatments complementing the hard work you're doing at home. We monitor progress and adjust your regimen as needed. Taking a holistic approach that considers physical, emotional, and environmental factors is key to achieving your best skin.

As an acne expert, what is the most critical aspect of treating acne for you?

I believe it's most critical to upkeep the health of the skin through the process. Knowing when to push and pull back on the skin is huge. It's important to give back to the skin just as much as we take during clearing acne — this includes having adequate hydration, protecting the skin with SPF, and knowing when to hone in with professional exfoliation during treatments. Treating acne can sometimes require potent active ingredients, so it's great to have the balance of gentleness in the mix as well.

What makes treating acne difficult?

All the many facets of life that can possibly impact our skin! There are SO many things you don't even think about. Whether it's stress levels, the makeup we use, that extra treat we had -- this all changes as we age and go through phases and changes. It can be difficult to keep up with all the changes we go through and how that will reflect in the state of our acne/skin.

What’s the most common skin misstep you see clients make?

Underestimating and underusing SPF! This can make or break many of our skin goals. It is so important to protect all the hard work and time you invest into your skin, and it's as easy as applying enough SPF every single day.

Which skincare step are you most passionate about? (and why)

SPF!! Who would have thought...haha. It is so easy to be good about SPF, and yet it is one of the first things we overlook. Unfortunately, The sun is your #1 enemy if you seek healthy skin -- which I think is bright, glowing, even-toned, etc. We can prevent and correct many skin concerns simply by being responsible with sun exposure. So yes, seek that shade, wear that hat, apply and reapply SPF, and download a UV index app to know the best times to be outside if you want to be extra like me. ;)

If you weren’t an aesthetician, what would you be doing?

At this point in time, I'd like to say I would have gone to film school and pursued something in the field. I love film, especially cinematography. Watching movies at home and going to the theater occupy much of my free time.
