Get to know Kenzie…
How do you connect with clients?
As someone who has dealt with acne since her young teen years, I've done it all – hormonal birth control, spironolactone, one round of Accutane, and purchasing hundreds of dollars worth of skincare that ultimately left me in the same place I started – desperate for clear skin. I empathize and sympathize with the toll acne and other skin concerns may bring to someone, and I want to help treat their concerns and be a comforting resource along the way.
It takes a lot of trust for clients with skin insecurities to open up; how do you help new clients feel comfortable?
First, I just want to be someone you can confide in and listen and hear where you are at with your skin. I became an aesthetician because I wanted to help others feel more confident in their skin, the same way my aesthetician helped me. Having my clients feel comfortable throughout their skincare journey is my priority, and I understand that on a very personal level.
Describe your philosophy on helping clients create healthy skin.
I want you to love your skin and your routine, and as no surprise, you likely won't find one without the other. I want to help you find products that bring you joy and don't clog your pores. I want you to feel supported, so reach out whenever you have a question or need a simple extraction! Open and honest communication between a client and their aesthetician is the basic building block to reaching your skin goals.
What makes treating acne difficult?
Treating acne is not linear, so there will be moments of joy and moments of struggle. Having dealt with the physical and mental struggles acne can bring, I know the importance of being hands-on and diligent about what we use on our faces and in our bodies. There are so many products, ingredients, and information out there—especially on social media—so I want to be a resource to clear the noise and get to the bottom of your breakouts.
What’s the most common skin misstep you see clients make?
A common skin misstep I see my clients making is not letting products work long enough to show their potential benefits for their skin. It's easy to want to try something for a week, a month, or maybe even two, but our skin journeys are a marathon, not a race. It takes at least a month (or longer) for our skin to cycle over, so give it some time! Even better yet, take monthly progress photos to document these often subtle changes over shorter periods of time.
Which skincare step are you most passionate about? (and why)
As many of my clients can tell, I am a person who LOVES icing. As someone who is redness-prone and acne-prone, incorporating icing into my weekly skincare routine is something I will never regret. It's a free way to calm inflammation, take down swelling, and give my skin a nice even glow after just a few minutes!
If you weren’t an aesthetician, what would you be doing?
Before joining Skin MPLS as an aesthetician, I worked in the marketing world at Caribou Coffee, helping grow their social media presence and drinking LOTS of coffee. The people there were so amazing, so maybe I would go back, but I won't lie – I always dreamed of opening a dog rescue or a food truck! Coffee, food, and dogs are the way to my heart!
