How do you connect with clients?

Every client is so different and I always do my best to treat each person I see with empathy and make sure they feel seen and heard. I take treating skin very seriously but I don't take myself that serious and I think that helps clients feel comfortable in showing up exactly how they are and helps us to connect on a deeper level.

It takes a lot of trust for clients with skin insecurities to open up; how do you help new clients feel comfortable?

I try my very best to make each client feel seen and heard and make sure they know that no matter how “big or small” their concern is, it matters. I also strive to make sure they feel comfortable with and understand each step of the treatment process, whether that is in the studio or at home. Creating a treatment plan is also a team effort, and I always want it to feel that way.

Describe your philosophy on helping clients create healthy skin.

Treating each client individually and as a whole person. Every person will have different goals or expectations, and it’s always been my priority to meet each client where they are and move forward to getting them to their healthiest skin from there.

As an acne expert, what is the most critical aspect of treating acne for you?

For me, the most critical aspect of treating acne and skin in general is making sure that I am hearing, understanding, and addressing the client's specific concerns. I want to ensure each client is comfortable with the treatment plan and understands the "why" behind what treatments or products I am recommending so we are on the same page and can effectively work together to help them achieve their skincare goals.

What makes treating acne difficult?

Treating acne can be difficult because it can be such an emotional experience and really affects self-confidence. I give people much credit for having the courage to take the first step of coming in for a consult to talk about their skin or allowing a new person to touch and see their skin up close.

I also think that it is very important to manage expectations on the front end when it comes to a treatment plan timeline and that it is possible we may need to make adjustments with treatments or homecare products along the way.

What’s the most common skin misstep you see clients make?

Inconsistency or incorrect use of homecare products or not fully understanding the mechanism of action behind the product, which leads to them discontinuing the product. For example, they experience peeling, irritation, or redness, which is normal and expected when first starting a vitamin A-based serum.

Which skincare step are you most passionate about? (and why)

There is a specific purpose behind all the steps in a routine, and when you know that, I think it motivates you to treat the skin fully and not skimp on any steps. But if I had to choose, it would be thoroughly cleansing, toning, and moisturizing daily. Quality treatment serums like the ones we carry at Skin MPLS can make incredible changes and improvements to your skin -- but if you are inconsistent with the foundation of your routine (cleansing/moisturizing), it is much harder to reach your desired result or skin’s full potential.

If you weren’t an aesthetician, what would you be doing?

Honestly, there isn’t really anything else I’d want to be doing -- but if I weren’t an aesthetician, I’d likely be doing something else within the esthetics industry.
