Get to know Cassie…
How do you connect with clients?
I’m lucky that connecting with people fills me. Sometimes, it can come naturally, so I don’t know exactly what I do -- but I look for synergies between us or work to discover what fills their time and tank.
It takes a lot of trust for clients with skin insecurities to open up; how do you help new clients feel comfortable?
First, I want you to know that there is ZERO skin judgment in my treatment room and all of Skin MPLS. We each have had our own sets of personal skin issues over the years and know how consuming they can be and how much they affect our self-esteem. I am impressed and honored each time a new client comes in, vulnerable, for help, and I’m so eager to see their disposition the next time they walk in, already feeling improvement in their skin condition.
Describe your philosophy on helping clients create healthy skin.
My philosophy is based on creating a partnership with my clients. They often credit me with their skin transformations, but I do so little of the actual work. They were the ones who came to me open-mindedly, trusted me with my guidance, took my recommendations, and put in the time at the bathroom vanity cleansing, treating, and masking their skin day after day.
As an acne expert, what is the most critical aspect of treating acne for you?
Treating complicated cases of acne requires a comprehensive, holistic approach. When getting to work with a new client with acne, the most important part for me is to find a way to create trust. Because each individual’s cause of acne is different, but most are multifactorial, I will have to dig deep into their lives to uncover all the factors contributing to their acne.
What makes treating acne difficult?
The fact that acne is a chronic disease that doesn’t have a cure. It’s hard to accept that, for some people, we will only be able to manage their acne but not clear it completely.
What’s the most common skin misstep you see clients make?
They are trying to be their own aesthetician. This is tricky for me to say because I want to help clients understand their skin and learn what it’s asking for and what it requires – but this happens from working long-term with a knowledgeable aesthetician who guides you through different stages of your skin and life. Along the way, you will pick up some “skin intuition” as well.
Which skincare step are you most passionate about? (and why)
This question took me a long time to answer. They all are so critical, and each one brings me actual joy! But is there a better feeling than when you look at the toning pad after you have toned to see how much dead skin, debris, oil, and makeup is on the pad?! It's a tangible reminder of the effectiveness of our skincare routine.
If you weren’t an aesthetician, what would you be doing?
Well, I was an IT Consultant before becoming an aesthetician, so I can safely rule that out! Before I attended college, I wanted to be a judge — but now I would love to be an architect. Seeing your ideas become reality sounds fulfilling.
