Are we there yet?
When you are working on changing your skin, you have to be a little patient! Your skin is made up of cells, and skin cell turnover is the process of getting new, healthy, fresh, and (hopefully) clear skin. Give yourself some grace and give your skin 90 days to achieve your goals. Here are some signs that can give you a confidence boost that you are on the right track!
Your skin heals faster.
If your skin barrier is in distress, it is in a chronic state of inflammation, which makes wound healing sluggish – and remember, pimples are technically little wounds. Working with an aesthetician to find the right way to treat YOUR skin should make your skin barrier healthy.
When your skin is well moisturized (rich in lipids, oils, and hydration), it can rebound faster. Plus, the more active ingredients you can push into your skin, the faster you will see that healthy skin cell turnover. So if you are seeing pimples, dark spots, and even things like cuts or burns that come and go quickly, you are on the right track. Supporting your internal health, as well as your topical skin health, can also lead to less sluggish cell turnover.
Your breakouts or flare-ups happen less often.
This seems obvious, but we can focus on the negative far too often when it comes to our skin. We harp on every pimple. However, if you are seeing a pimple come and go every couple of weeks instead of every couple of days, that is exciting progress that should be celebrated. That means your regimen and changes are working for you, and clear skin is on the horizon.
People comment on that glow.
There’s a reason everyone envies the dewy skin look. Healthy skin is in, and healthy skin looks glossy and bright. You can have breakouts and dark spots, but still have a healthy glow that makes people stop and compliment you. Take the win, pimples and all. The first step in achieving your skin goals is for your skin to feel better and brighter; breakout-free will come in time.
Vacation finally feels like vacation.
You are not alone. Many people feel like their skin unravels on their trips. Think of all the variables. You don’t have all your products (sometimes), the pillowcases have rogue chemicals and fragranced detergents, you are wearing makeup galore, eating all the foods, flying, weather changes, you get the idea.
But pimples weren’t on your vacation vision board, so keep working on staying consistent with your regimen and changes! When you start traveling, and your skin breakouts become less and less common, take the time to smell the roses. When your skin can tolerate all those changes and conditions and stay clear, that means you are on the right path, even if you pay for it when you get home.
Perfect is the enemy of good. We are improving incremental amounts day after day. Seeing an aesthetician is like having a life coach for your skin. Facial treatments are a fast track, but consistent, hard work on a regimen and lifestyle changes (like stress management and nutrition) is what makes healthy skin. In a world of instant gratification, take the road less traveled, and you might enjoy the trip more than you think.
