The Lazy Skincare Routine (You Didn't Hear It From Us)
We don't judge when it comes to washing your face. Something is better than nothing. We have friends, family, and partners that don't wash their faces at all, believe it or not. But still, this is our advice to them.
Even giving your skin two minutes of attention at night to “cleanse,” promote cell turnover, and protection against premature skin damage can have a significant impact. If you really hate washing your face, consider going makeup-free, as leftover makeup on the skin, along with not wearing SPF, are among the most common mistakes that can be damaging to your skin.
If you are overwhelmed by the multi-step routines, start here. We believe in you!
Step 1: Soak cotton pads in Bioderma micellar water and wipe off the first layer of makeup. Repeat until your cotton pads are clean.
Why micellar water? Makeup wipes and makeup removers contain some harsh detergents that wipe the dirt, oil, and makeup around. Micellar water is a magnet for dirt, oil, and makeup, plus it's gentle for your skin.
Why Bioderma? Bioderma invented micellar water, and it is what the French girls use. It's the best, and it's also acne-safe!
Step 2: Do a quick cleanse by the sink or in the shower.
By removing most of your makeup, you should be able to get by with a cleanse that is well under a minute, and only one. If you already shower at night, then it's really easy to cleanse in the shower! Do yourself a favor and use a sudsy cleanser if you're trying to get in and out quickly. We like Mandelic Acid Wash because you get some light chemical exfoliation at the same time!
Step 3: Apply a serum
Just one serum is a great start. It might be hyaluronic acid, a retinoid, vitamin C, or a combo. Consult an aesthetician before you start buying and trying products. People often end up with multiple serums they don't understand. Get ONE that you can use every single night!
Step 4: Apply moisture
This step is important. When you cleanse and don't put anything on your skin afterward, you strip it and also cause all the water in your skin to leech out. This can cause your skin to become dehydrated, resulting in a crepey appearance and potential damage over time. You need a moisturizer to seal and protect your skin.
This whole four-step process will take under two minutes. But for those nights when you don't have it in you, here is the really lazy routine that is also great for camping because there is no water needed.
Step 1: Use micellar water to remove and makeup.
Keep using saturated cotton pads until they are 100% clean. It will probably take 2-3 rounds.
Step 2: Use a toner.
This is a straightforward step for those who really don't like to get their face wet. It's beneficial because it has some cleansing properties and will also provide exfoliation (great for dry, dull, or congested skin) as well. We recommend:
Skin Nourishing for dry skin. 3% Mandelic Acid for normal skin. 9% Mandelic Acid for oily skin.
Step 3: Moisture
Once you know your skin is clean, be sure to lock in the moisture with the right moisturizer.
We recommend:
Bio Cell for dry skin. Dual Barrier for normal skin. Allantoin for oily skin.
