Hydration is the Key to Longevity

We’re no strangers to dry skin here in Minnesota, but making sure you hydrate your skin properly is the key to its longevity. “Hydration” refers to water content and your skin needs water to give it strength and elasticity – two critical factors in maintaining healthy skin and slowing down the aging process. It’s no secret that we love our active ingredients here at Skin MPLS, but that’s because consistent vitamin A topical use (along with other forms of exfoliation and types of exfoliating ingredients) is crucial for treating acne, aging, sun damage, and pesky post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation. However, with the use of those actives can come some dry, flaky skin. While we're aiming to keep that skin cell turnover consistent, we also want to balance it out with hydration so we can get the most from our actives and still achieve that dewy glow. Remember, you don’t have to choose between clear skin or hydrated skin.

You know us, we’re going to stick to hydrating products that don’t contain any pore-cloggers. So one of our go to acne-safe ingredients is hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronic acid (HA) is one of the most universal hydration products, you can apply it after any Vivant vitamin A serum to counteract the drying effects of exfoliation and boost the effectiveness of your moisturizer.

We have a new studio favorite hydrator to get you hooked on. The Dr. Esthé Hyal-Moisture Solution Ampoule is filled with multiple forms of HA to drench your skin in hydration. If you really want to up your hydration game, you can boost this HA serum with some peptides (AKA “fertilizer for your skin”), which happen to be in the new M.G.F. Renewal Ampoule, also by Dr. Esthé. Prone to redness or irritation? Add the Azulene Relief Solution Ampoule to your routine. With the bulk of this product being anti-inflammatory green tea, it’s the perfect cocktail for dehydrated skin that’s prone to redness and irritation post-exfoliation. With summer on its way (we hope?!), we want to get the most out of our sunscreen – so did you know that vitamin C helps to increase the effectiveness of sunscreen? And when it’s accompanied by vitamin E, the pair boosts hydration and elasticity? Add the Vita-C Radiance Solution Ampoule to your morning routine to check all these boxes and more.
