Get to know Becky…

How do you connect with patients?

I genuinely love getting to know my patients! I want to know their skin goals and love to hear about their careers, family, pets, travel, and what they're reading. I want to find out what brings them joy.

It takes a lot of trust for clients with skin insecurities to open up; how do you help new clients feel comfortable?

Compassion and active listening. We all have our own insecurities and I would hope others would be understanding and kind if I spoke about mine!

Describe your philosophy on helping patients create healthy skin.

Education is key! If people understand why something is the way it is, they're more apt to follow their skin care regimen.

We're all acne experts, but what is the most critical aspect of treating acne for you?

Education. Once people understand why they are struggling with breakouts, they can begin to lessen them with the appropriate treatments and products.

What makes treating acne difficult?

So much of the treatment is done by our clients at home. So it really comes down to people understanding how to use the products and being consistent. We can educate and encourage, but so much of your skin's response will be based on how consistent you are with your regimen.

What's the most common skin misstep you see patients make?

Picking! For those with texture on their skin or actual pimples, picking them can create scars. And while med spa treatments can help these scars, if someone continues to pick at their skin, the cycle will just continue. Try hard to stop picking!

Which skincare step are you most passionate about? (and why)

It took me waaaay too long to be passionate about it - but it's sunscreen. I spent too many decades thinking I wanted to enjoy myself and be in the sun as much as I wanted. I liked my freckles. Then, in my late 40s, those cute freckles turned into more prominent sunspots. Fortunately I was able to have BBL treatments which have eliminated the majority of these on my face and now I want to protect my investment! It's taken a lot of time and money to get my skin to where it is - if I'd have been better about SPF in my younger years I wouldn't have had to work so hard for it!

If you weren't a nurse practitioner, what would you be doing?

I've been one for so long that it's hard to imagine! But the other day, Kaila said she sees me as a librarian - and I would love that! I'd get to help people get the information they need while also being surrounded by books.
