Five Mistakes that Will Derail Your Journey to Clear Skin

Part of being human is getting a pimple – even the best aestheticians get breakouts. But we think you can strive to be 99% clear! So, if you are a few months into your routine and professional treatments and aren't entirely thrilled, one of these may be to blame.

Sephora or trendy skincare

We are done sugar-coating it. Sephora skincare is junk food for your skin. Some products might be acne-safe, but they still will waste time and money. Period.

Too many supplements

Supplements are a huge acne trigger that goes unnoticed. Even outside of the main ones like biotin and B12, there are things like algae, iodide, creatine, ashwagandha, too much zinc, and the list goes on and on. Every action has a reaction (AKA a side effect), so if you are hopping on and off trendy supplements all the time, they could very well affect your skin. Our advice is to stick to the absolute basics, and once you are clear for at least two months, try adding them in one at a time!

Missing your appointments because your skin is “doing fine”

We aren't saying monthly facial treatments are cheap, but at least they are an investment that gives a return. Don't think you can skip it because your skin is stable. We want more than stability. We want excellence. Be a teacher's pet and get your treatments; they're preventative, proactive, and essential.

Unsafe makeup

We've made it so easy for clients to find acne-safe makeup. There is no excuse. Don't think just checking your foundation is enough. You must check blush, bronzer, concealer, highlighters, powders, primers, setting sprays, and lip liners. Dirty makeup and tools are easily one of the most common acne sins. Here are today's hottest acne-safe cosmetics. Remember, the more products on your face, the more chances that something will break you out.

Not letting your skin flake

Using active products means you will be exfoliating your skin. Exfoliating your skin is the way to stay clear – it removes dead skin cells that build up and cause acne. Also, exfoliating your skin reveals brighter and younger skin, which is a bonus! Here is our guide to product and exfoliation acclimation.
