Cancellation Policy:

Please notify us at least 24 hours before your scheduled appointment if you must cancel or reschedule.  Understandably, sometimes events outside of our control may come up (such as needing to pick up a sick child or our unpredictable Minnesota weather); but, please try to honor our scheduled appointment time and the 24 hour notice the best you can and we promise do the same for you.

If you cancel less than 12 hours before your scheduled time on more than one occasion, you will be charged the fee for the services you had scheduled. This policy also applies to “no shows,” and repeat offenders may be asked to book day of services only.

 

Lateness Policy:

We respect your time and work very hard to stay on schedule throughout the day for each appointment time which means if a client shows up late it can through affect the next client’s appointment start time. Because of this, please do your best to arrive at least few minutes before your scheduled appointment. You’re welcome to arrive even earlier and sit and enjoy some tea and quiet time to unwind before your appointment. However, if you’re running more than five minutes late, please call us so we can chat to determine if it’s necessary to reschedule your appointment.

If by chance we are running behind more than 10-15 minutes, we will also notify you before your scheduled appointment time.

 

Walk-ins:

Skin MPLS is a “by appointment only” skin studio, so please call or book an appointment online before you come. There is not a front desk staff at this studio, so if you come by without an appointment, we will likely be working with another client and may be unable to assist you.

 

Product Purchase:

If you need to refill a product that you are running out of, book a “Consultation” through our online scheduling. This is a complimentary 15 minute appointment during which we can consult and get your product refilled. We also offer free shipping in the US.

 

Schedule an Appointment:

The best way to book your appointment is through our online scheduling. It is most convenient to create an online account with us so that you may easily manage your appointments should you need to reschedule or cancel in the future. You may also email us (at info@skinmpls.com) or respond directly to the email or text confirmation you receive regarding the appointment.

Other ways of booking your appointment include calling or emailing. However, online booking is best because it may be hours before we are able to respond to your message due to working with other clients.

 

Booking More Than One Service Online:

While booking online if you’d like to book more than one service for yourself, please select all of your services before searching for an available time. This will ensure that your services are scheduled back-to-back. To do so, after you’ve selected your first service from the online menu, click “+ Select another service” link directly below the service you’ve already chosen. Continue, until you have listed all of the services you require and then search for an available day and time and complete your booking.

 

Return Policy:

As a small business, we are unable to accept returns other than damaged or defective products. In these instances, please notify us as soon as possible so that we may replace your product for you.

 

Accepted Forms of Payment:

Skin MPLS accepts Visa, MasterCard, and Discover credit card and debit card payments as well as cash, checks and Skin MPLS gift certificates.

 

Gratuity:

Gratuity is entirely up to you. If you feel we provided you with exceptional service, let us know. We also gladly accept referrals and promise to take excellent care of your friends and family.

 

Children:

Like you, we love children too; however, during your services you’re laying down (oftentimes with your eyes closed and covered) and unable to tend to them as necessary so we ask that you do not bring small children along to your treatments.


ACNE AND SKINCARE FAQ

Why do I have acne?

Acne is hereditary and may also arise from hormones or stress. Acne lesions (AKA, pimples) start deep under the skin’s surface, typically forming 30 to 90 days before you see them. A pimple begins down in the pore when a dead skin cell is retained within the pore instead of flaking off and being purged. This process repeats over and over again and eventually an impaction or plug is formed in the pore. At this point, the pimple may take a non-inflammatory route or an inflammatory route. The non-inflammatory route typically shows up as a blackhead or a whitehead. The inflammatory route is less desired because the pore wall eventually collapses due to the growing impaction; this results in an inflamed, red (and possibly cystic) lesion.

 

How much will clearing my acne cost?

Each professional acne treatment costs $65 - $75; plan on a minimum of four treatments. At your first visit, we will devise an at-home daily care plan consisting of 2 to 6 different products. Typically, the initial product investment will cost between $80-$175 and will last from 3 to 9 months depending on individual usage and instructions.

What else can I do to speed up the process of clearing my acne?

Have patience and follow your home care instructions closely. Ice any inflamed areas for 2 to 5 minutes two times per day. Don’t touch your face and don’t pick your acne lesions. Wash your pillowcase weekly, use clean towels to blot your face dry, and wear only Skin MPLS approved makeup. Additionally, let us know if you have any questions or concerns as soon as they come up. 

 

Are there other acne clearing tips you can share to go along with my home care products? 

When cleansing your skin, do not use too much water; this will dilute the active ingredients in your cleanser. Also, be sure to leave your cleanser on your face for a minimum of one minute. Use clean hands when washing your face as well as a clean towel to pat dry after cleansing.

Use either cotton pads or gauze when applying your toner; cotton balls waste too much product and do not tone your face as effectively. Also, run all additional products you use on your face, and even hair and body, by us.

How do I know what skin treatment service to book?

Some of our clients know exactly what they want and book it, but others just leave it up to us to decide. We customize every treatment to your skin regardless, so you really can’t go wrong and we won’t do anything that isn’t appropriate for your skin. If you’re really unsure, just go ahead and book a Skin Fitness Facial Treatment and we’ll discuss before we begin and make a change if necessary.

 

What can I expect with a peel?

We have several different peels that we offer. Some have no discomfort, downtime or visible peeling while others are more intense, and you may peel for up to a week. Before we start every chemical peeling service, we consult with you to understand the results you’re after and the amount of peeling that you’re willing to undergo. Also, understand that just because you do not see visible peeling, doesn’t mean you will not see improvement in your skin.

There are several potential side effects that may occur with a chemical peel that include redness, welts, scabs, dryness, tightness, swelling, irritation, and of course peeling of the skin. A bit of redness, tightening of the skin and peeling is typical though.

 

What can I expect with a microdermabrasion?

With microdermabrasion you can expect a resurfacing of the skin, it removes built up dead skin cells leaving you feeling incredibly smooth and glowing.

There are several potential side effects that may occur with a microdermabrasion treatment that include redness, swelling, bruising, stinging, tenderness, dry or flaking skin and lightening or darkening of the skin. In addition, side effects could include slight blood potting which may appear with deeper treatment levels. Healing may take several days or longer. Always check with me if you have any concerns after the treatment.


WAXING FAQ

Why do my brows look so good after you do them?

We finish each brow service with a complimentary touch-up. We use brow cosmetic products to enhance your freshly designed eyebrows, making them just perfect. We even minimize any after-waxing pinkness by applying concealer so that you may go back to work, run errands, or go out straight out to meet up with friends.

 

How often should I wax my eyebrows?

Most people need their eyebrows done every four weeks. They typically look really clean and fresh for about three weeks and then by the fourth week have grown in considerably and are ready to be cleanly waxed again. Some blondes are able to stretch their appointment frequency to closer to 6-week intervals. It all depends on you though!

 

I grow a lot of hair on my face, should I wax it?

Absolutely, if it bothers you. Waxing will keep the hair at bay for about three weeks and then by the fourth week you will be ready for another wax.

Some women grow thicker, coarse hairs on their chin and lip areas due to their hormones – waxing is also a good solution for these, although you may need to come more often because these hairs tend to grow back more rapidly and can become ingrown if you tweeze them incorrectly. However, if you only grow the sporadic thicker, coarser chin/lip hair, we do encourage you to go ahead and tweeze them if there are just a few, no need to wait for your next waxing appointment.

You can also get a Dermaplaning Service to remove unwanted facial hair. During this service, we use a surgical blade to remove all of your facial hair along with dead skin cell build up. This service leaves your skin incredibly smooth and hair-free.

 

Should I tweeze my eyebrows in between appointments?

We prefer that you do not tweeze in between your scheduled appointments because it’s our goal to give you a long lasting wax. When you tweeze some hairs, it throws them out of the growth cycle and then you don’t get a clean wax that lasts as long. Also, it’s been our experience that clients accidentally and inevitably over tweeze or create holes. Leave your eyebrows to us professionals ;)

 

How long should my leg/underarm/bikini hair be in order to wax it?

We prefer you stop shaving at least 2 weeks before a wax, but 3-4 weeks is best. The hair should be about ¼ - ½ inch long. Four weeks between each waxing appointment is typically best.

 

What is the best way to maintain a longer, smoother wax?

For body waxing we prefer that you exfoliate regularly either in the shower or before your shower with a dry brush and always moisturize your skin post-shower. Most people can exfoliate daily and this is best to prevent ingrown hairs in the bikini/Brazilian areas. Definitely exfoliate the day of your wax to get the best results.

 

I have a big event/vacation coming up, when should I get my wax?

For best results, we recommend to get your wax a day or two before your event or when you depart for vacation. Also, be sure to plan your airbrush spray tan for a day after your wax.

 

I don’t have a very high pain tolerance, is waxing for me?

We’ve been told that our waxes are less painful than others that our clients have experienced. You can always take a couple of Ibuprofen/Advil before your appointment to help with any discomfort. Also, note that waxing gets less and less painful the more you do it.


MAKEUP FAQ

Why Have a Professional:

Having your makeup and your bridal party’s makeup professionally done for your wedding day minimizes your stress and helps you to look even more beautiful and photo-ready. We’ll keep you and your bridal party on time and on schedule for your pictures and ceremony. Even better, we have all the tools and formulas necessary to make sure your makeup stays on all day long until you remove it.

 

Why Airbrushed Foundation:

Airbrushed foundation is weightless and long-lasting. It gives a skin-like, flawless finish that is gorgeous in photos and IRL.

 

Why Onsite:

Take the travel and coordination stress out of your wedding day and let us come to you! We can come almost anywhere to get you and your bridal party ready for your day. We can set up in hotel suites, homes, churches or other venues. All we need is a little bit of space, a table to set up on, an outlet, and a bit of natural light if possible.

In order to book onsite makeup services for your wedding day, all you need is yourself and at least three others for makeup. Note that if you’re not able to meet the minimum booking for onsite travel, you can still come the Skin MPLS studio to have us do your makeup for your wedding day.

 

What Product Do You Use / Can I Use My Own Makeup:

We use a variety of top-of-the-line, high-performance industry and professional products ranging from TEMPTU, Makeup Forever, MAC, Too Faced, Laura Mercier, YSL, Urban Decay, etc. We utilize waterproof and water-resistant products when possible to ensure your makeup lasts as long as your day does. If you have something specific you’d like us to use one you, bring it along – we’d be happy to apply it; otherwise, we have everything else covered.

Also, no need to worry about your lip product wearing off; we will supply everyone with a complimentary touch-up kit that includes their individual lip product for reapplying as well as a few other goodies for the day.

 

Additional Fees:

There are no additional fees for the makeup services. All applications come with full-face makeup application, which includes airbrushed makeup and false eyelashes that we supply and apply. Tattoo coverage does incur an additional charge of $15-30 per tattoo based on size and location.

 

Travel Charges:

Onsite makeup services are only available to bridal parties that meet the minimum booking of bride plus three other makeup applications. Travel charges only apply if the venue is more than 20 miles from the Skin MPLS studio or if there are parking fees. Because we travel with heavy product and equipment, at certain hotels in the area we will utilize the valet service when necessary because metered parking oftentimes has to be renewed after two hours. Travel charges will be billed on the wedding day.

 

Deposit:

A non-refundable $100 deposit is required to reserve your wedding date and will be deducted from the final balance. To pay the deposit, mail a check to Skin MPLS. Once it is received, we will go ahead and schedule your consultation date.

 

Consultations:

A consultation is included with every bride’s makeup booking and takes place at the Skin MPLS studio. This is a one-hour service where we determine and create the look that is best for you for your wedding day. We recommend scheduling your consultation from 2-8 weeks before your wedding date. Consultations may also be done for other bridal party members, but will cost $85. Please come with a clean face and feel free to bring pictures or examples of how you’d like your makeup for the wedding day.

Day of:

We work with you the month of your wedding to create a “day of” makeup itinerary. If you have a wedding planner or onsite hair stylists, we can also work with them. Plan on us arriving at least 15 minutes before makeup is scheduled to begin. Typically we book 30-40 minutes for each attendant and 45-60 minutes for the bride.

Please communicate to everyone getting their makeup done to have a clean, moisturized face with all traces of mascara and eyeliner removed. 

We will provide each person with a complimentary touch up kit that includes blotting papers and their lip product for reapplying.

 

Payment:

Full payments are due two weeks prior to the wedding date. If anyone requests additional last minute makeup services the day of the wedding, they can be paid in cash at the time of the service. You can pay with cash, check or via our online payment system.
